The small stuff

Like many of you I wanted to go out and shoot quick to get 2019 going. As I was sitting here I realized I just about picked everything apart in my area…well things I enjoy shooting. I don’t want to always have to get up, fill the car with gas and take a few hours drive to photograph something. And I don’t want to start creating photographs “just because “.

The other day I went to a place to photograph “just because “….lol. Yep I did just that. I went to Sky Meadows State Park; the side of the park where people ride their horses. Mid-morning with some clouds really helped. The main reason I wanted to shoot was to have the Fujifilm X-T100 on a tripod. I wanted to shoot with a low ISO and long shutter speeds and also take advantage of the tilted LCD screen ( I will write a blog on the X-T100).

I was out there for a few hours. Yes it was “just because “ but I took advantage of the entire time. While there I photographed everything big and wide. Nothing up close, just tried to see how many different types of compositions I could create. As I was shutting everything down and packing I realized I missed A LOT of images. All the time I was thinking big, I never thought small or close-up. I’m talking farmland with old fences, machinery, etc. Right then my “just because “ became “yes!” With my Fujifilm X-Pro2 and 35mm prime lens (first time using the camera since I got it back from repair) I walked around the areas where I just finished shooting and created more intimate images.

The day wasn’t wasted at all. Still not feeling nor do I want to get into the “just because “ shoots.

Gear used: Fujifilm X-Pro2 and X-T100, lenses 18-135mm f/ 3.5-5.6 R LM OIS and 35mm f/2 R WR prime lens. All images were shot in RAW. Images from X-Pro2 were converted to Acros black & white, X-T100 converted to Monochrome. X-T100 does not have Acros. Black and whites gave me more drama/more pop versus the browns and greens.

When you’re out shooting big remember the small stuff.
