My journey with photography……..

Behind the fence

The last day of 2018 and I wasn’t even thinking of writing a blog. Sometimes things hit you before you even know it and that’s not a bad thing. My morning errand was to run out to the grocery store (and grab my last 2018 ICE CREAM 😉 ) and if it had not started to rain maybe I would get a walk in. But as I was opening up the blinds I saw a lot of fog. One thing I’ve always enjoyed and that’s creating images in fog. And as we know things don’t last so I decided to stop at my favorite spot and hopefully be able to get creative.

Where is my favorite spot? It’s located in walking distance at the community area that includes tennis courts, basketball court, pool, and the community building. Yes if you’re not into any of that it sounds boring. But what are not boring are the chain fences that surround the courts. I love photographing the fences because of the framing they bring. I can take an ugly vision and make it rather dramatic. With the fence as my frame, I focus on the fence, what’s inside of the fence, or everything. Having total control can make my photographs a talking piece…and it’s fun to do. I decided I wanted my final images in black and white. I was searching for drama and black and white bought it home for me.

Gear used: Fujifilm X-T100, Fujinon Super EBC XC 50-230mm f/4.5-6.7 OIS lens. I shot everything in RAW then converted to black & white in Camera RAW.

HAPPY SHOOTING!! 🙂 🙂

Tis the Season…

After all the hoopla of Christmas is over – you know the window displays right before Halloween, sales, sales, and more sales, Thanksgiving hasn’t arrived yet but we must decorate, Hallmark Christmas movies all summer, and finally Christmas Day is here? – Things begin to settle down a little. Everyone is tired and exhausted and just want to rest.

Christmas – the day Jesus Christ was born. With ALL the other stuff going on, I’m quite sure a lot of people forgot what Christmas Day was all about…just saying 🙂

One thing about Christmas time is that I do enjoy is the music and decorations. I love the words of all the Christmas songs because they have so much meaning. Decorations can be interesting but all-in-all I enjoy looking at them. Manassas does a good job with their downtown decorations. Right by the train station is the skating/ice rink and plenty of restaurants. This year I decided to bundle up and walk around with my camera. Even though school is out for the week, the streets and ice rink wasn’t too busy…I picked the right night.

I had my Fujifilm X-T100 and 35mm prime lens. Even though I shot everything in RAW, I selected Classic Chrome in my camera. Since I hand held my camera, my ISO settings ranged from 4,000 – 8,000; f/stop was 2.0-4.0. I didn’t worry about noise from the high ISO because I hand held the camera. I wasn’t looking to create a super-awesome-images….I just wanted to walk around humming the Christmas songs and enjoying the decorations. Yes I was having fun!! 😉

HAPPY SHOOTING!! 🙂 🙂

Beauty of the trees

Trees have been around forever. Mostly everyone likes them for different reasons: shade, security/protection around your home, beautify the landscape, taking photographs, sleeping and/or reading under, or just simply a place for peace

How often do we take the time to “really” look at a tree? Me, personally I don’t take any time until the other day. Trees goes through a lot of abuse from mother nature. The four seasons bring so many types of weather and they’re normally not protective. Little by little their beauty decrease and we go and find another tree that looks better. All we know they’re there for us to do what it is we need them to do.

Determined to take photographs after my walk, I began to look at the trees more carefully. As I looked the inner parts of the trees looked like art. The designs also looked like the bark was glued to the trees. They were really cool! I went online and found the Anatomy of a Tree. Trees have five layers: Outer Bark, Inner Bark, Cambium Cell Layer, Sapwood, and Heartwood.

So my project that day was to photograph the trees. Not just to document their outer protection/beauty but to try and show the unique art that’s within. The next time you’re enjoying trees for whatever reason, take an extra moment and enjoy the beauty of the trees 😉

Gear used: Fujifim X-T100, XF 18-135mm f/3.5-5.6 R LN OIS WR lens, 60mm f/2.4 macro lens.
