My journey with photography……..

Always something to photograph….somewhere

Last Thursday I told myself that I was going to go out Friday and shoot. That was an easy decision. The question was where? I mean (and I’ve said this many of times) Manassas just don’t have anything appealing to me. I really didn’t want to drive around “just because” and end up with nothing.

Finally early Friday morning I kinda thought of a place – still wasn’t sure. When driving out into Virginia towards Front Royal, The Plains, Winchester there are a lot of back roads. Back roads are one lane roads that are sometimes still lumpy and bumpy but can have character along the way…and also bring back memories. I remembered growing up we use to drive to Front Royal on Rt 340. I have not taken 340 to Front Royal in forever – yes a very, very, long time. That’s what I did! And when you don’t know what you’re still going to shoot you pack EVERYTHING. That’s the fun of driving – you can fill the back with all your gear and see what happens.

What. Great. Memories. As I drove through White Post, VA seeing the white post in the middle of the road was priceless. Thats what make small towns precious – updating here and there but trying to keep the town “as is”. As I was driving and remembering it was also sad seeing what was no more: abandoned homes and closed-up Mom & Pops businesses which is happening everyday.

I’m glad I had a problem trying to figure out where and what I could photograph. Maybe it slowed me down from jumping so fast. Maybe I know things are changing from the places I knew of/visited when growing up and I need to get back to. I don’t know. But I am looking for my next adventure. ❤️

Gear used: Fujifilm X-H1, Fujifilm 18-135mm F/3.5- LM OIS WR lens, Lee Filter Seven5 ND Big Stopper, and MeFoto tripod.

HAPPY SHOOTING!! 😁😁

The Joys of A Baby Shower

Recently I had the opportunity to photograph a baby shower. This was my first time ever photographing one but I knew as long as I told the entire story of the event I would be successful.

Knowing the mother-to-be I knew it wouldn’t be just a “baby shower”. I didn’t know their theme but I knew she wouldn’t miss a beat…and she didn’t. When the parents laughter all the time you knew everyone else would be laughing too. With the beautiful gifts, there was good food, crazy funny games, and lots of laughs.

For me the lighting was just right. Even though I had my flash (left it in the car) I wanted to shoot available light. The white table cloths working with the lighting made it very easy to shoot throughout the room; it bounced light up from the tables. This was the first time shooting an event with the Fujifilm XR 16-80mm F/4 R OIS lens. Yes, the F/4 isn’t a fast lens but it performed very well. Camera used was the Fujifilm X-H1. I shoot in Fuji’s film simulation of Classic Chrome. The colors aren’t as vivid which sometimes is too much. I edit all my images with Capture One.

By the way the baby is here! It’s a Baby Boy, 6 lbs. 10 oz. Mother and son are doing very well. ❤️❤️

HAPPY SHOOTING!! 😁😁
