Platypod…what?? It’s a metal plate that you can use as a tripod. WHAT!!?

A few years ago I saw an advertisement for the Platypod. (No I am not affiliated with Platypod in any matter). Back then it was only one size and mainly for DLSR’s – Platypod Max. Last year or so I began to notice that they had one for midsize DSLR’s, mirrorless or point & shoot cameras – Platypod Ultra. Finally before the end of last year I decided to purchase the Platypod Ultra.

At times you don’t want to carry a tripod but those are the times you wish you had. Or you carry a tripod and you just don’t want to deal with it at all. To me this is where the Platypod comes in handy. It’s a piece of metal that you can attach different types of tripod ball heads to. It can just about fit into the palm of your hand. Doesn’t take up much room in your camera bag or suitcase. And when you’re at a place that has tripod restrictions you may be able to get away with shooting with the Platypod. The Ultra comes with the base, four spike feet, and cinch strap. It does not come with a tripod ball head but mine (MeFoto) fit well. When I purchased it also came with the multi accessory kit which includes: non-slip silicone pad, 3” anodized aluminum spigot adapter (to mount items like flashes, hot shoes), 36” tension strap, 1.5’ wide anodized aluminum 0.5 riser (smaller tripod heads, etc.), and a drawstring pouch. For more thorough information you will have to go to their website.

I went out one midmorning this week with the Platypod, Fujifilm X-T100, 18-135mm, 18-55mm, and 14mm lenses. I took them all with me because I just didn’t know what would work for me. I wasn’t looking for anything great, I just wanted to shoot as low as possible and see how well I would adjust and how well it would work. I only took the plate. It was cool outside with a slight breeze. I was good with that just to see if it would stay steady, etc. I think it’s a cool little gadget. I think all photographers should have a gadget like this in their bag. You never know what type of bind you may get into…that’s just me. Once again No I am not affiliated with Platypod in any matter. Here are a couple of photographs taken with the Platypod. I will definitely keep it in my bag.

HAPPY SHOOTING!! 🙂 🙂
