Yours truly taken by a Photographer

A few weeks ago I took a last minute trip to Las Vegas. There’s more to this story that this but I’ll leave it at that 😉  99% of my trips I call “mini trips” and they normally last no more than four days. Sounds crazy? No not really. I plan enough time to shoot (taking photographs), enjoy the area I’m in, and maybe put it on my list to hope to try and get back to one day. I know you’re saying “but Vegas”?? Yes but there’s more to Las Vegas than the Strip.

I have been to Vegas a few times and was able to enjoy the Strip – both day and night. It is something to see because you just never know what you may see. This trip I wanted to see what was what outside of the city limits.

The places I visited were no more than 30-40 minutes from my hotel. The day I got to Vegas I went to the Ghost Town, located near Nelson, NV. It is so cool! It’s a photographer’s dream but it’s for everyone. They have signs stating that if you’re a photographer to come inside the store. When I went inside the owners of the place reminded me of the safety of their place, what buildings you could go inside, and mostly be aware of the cactus plants and rattlesnakes. I really thought the cactus plants were taller than me! And when he said rattlesnakes I knew I wasn’t going to stay long 🙂

A serious cactus.

The next day I went to Hoover Dam – first time visit. It’s very impressive with the huge generators and the Wings Figures of the Republic. This same day I drove over to Red Rock Canyon. If you enjoy hiking and biking this is the place for you. Pretty cool.

On my last day I visited Valley of Fire State Park. This place was awesome! If I had known how big this state park was I would have left early morning and planned to stay the entire day. I didn’t see all of it; I would like to go back some day and revisit. Not only was the park spectacular, the drive in and out of the park was just as cool. Some of the park features I did enjoy were the Beehives, Atlatl Rock, Arch Rock, and the Fire Wave.

The next time you go to Vegas be sure to make time to enjoy what’s around the city…you will enjoy it 😉

Camera gear: Fujifilm X-Pro2, 18-55mm f/2,8-4 R LM OIS lens. I chose this lens because I knew I would be around a lot of dust, sand, and dry land. I didn’t want to be tempted to change lenses and add more dust/dirt inside of my camera.
