I’ve always enjoyed track & field – professional or amateur. From the individual performance to the team races I’ve always found them fascinating. I do remember years ago track meets could be seen on Saturday afternoons on regular TV. Now it’s hit or miss and I feel it’s more of a miss. If you’re lucky and come across one on TV most likely it’s somewhere in Europe. Colleges have more TV channels therefore its possible you can see more of them (I’m going to have to research that more).

A few weeks ago I was invited to WV for the final track meet of the year. I believe it was a regional track meet. And of course my camera was my companion. Even though I was focusing on a particular team I still enjoyed taking photographs of others and parts of what makes a track meet happen. This was the first time I’ve photographed a meet so I was more nervous than normal. Yes it was cold and rainy throughout which made it more challenging for the athletes and me.

On this day with my Fujifilm X-Pro2, I used my XC 50-230mm f/4.5-6.7 OIS lens. This isn’t a fast lens but I thought it did very well. With some more shoots under my belt I’ll get more comfortable in shooting sports. Below are some images I took that day. I love shooting track and field so much it was really hard to narrow them down. So there’s a lot to look at…..told you I love track and field.
